The Logic Verdict

My Take: The host demonstrates the classic absorb-and-iron method: let the wax harden, chip away the bulk, sandwich the fabric between paper towels, then pass a very hot iron over the spot until the molten wax transfers into the paper. Shifting to a clean section of paper between passes keeps the stain from re-depositing, and a normal wash finishes the job.

The Science

Paraffin wax solidifies deep in the fibers, but it re-liquefies around 120–150 °F. By sandwiching the textile between absorbent paper, you create a capillary pathway so the molten wax wicks into the paper instead of spreading through the tablecloth. Scraping first removes the bulk so less wax needs to be melted, and the final hot-water wash strips any residual oiliness from the fibers.

Step-by-Step Removal

  1. Let it harden. Allow the wax to cool completely (speed it up with an ice cube if needed). Gently lift off the raised drips with a plastic scraper or the dull side of a butter knife.
  2. Set up the sandwich. Place a layer of brown paper or absorbent white paper towels on the ironing board, lay the stained section on top, then cover the wax with another sheet of paper.
  3. Press with a hot iron. Set the iron to cotton/linen with no steam. Glide it over the paper for 5–10 seconds. You’ll see the wax print transfer into the paper.
  4. Shift and repeat. Move to a clean section of paper each time so the wax has somewhere new to wick. Continue until the paper stops absorbing residue.
  5. Launder & inspect. Wash the tablecloth in the hottest water the fabric care label allows with your regular detergent. Air-dry first to confirm the stain is gone before using a hot dryer.
